Stuart Holden-Two injuries in just over 12 months

Stuart Holden plays for the US MNT and the Bolton Wanderers of the EPL. Holden sustained a broken leg when the US MNT played against Holland on March 3, 2010, he was out for 6 weeks but manage to make it on the World Cup squad for 2010. Then on March 19, 2011 , Holden sustained another injury while going up against Manchester United when Jonny Evans came in and his studs caught hold of Holden’s knee leaving a gash that required twenty-six stitches and an anterior cruiciate ligament (ACL) injury leaving him out for 6 months. Stuart Holden is one of my favorite players and these two injuries proves that he is one of the strongest players in the world of soccer (in my opinion.

Manchester United completed a stunning fightback to clinch The FA Community Shield at Wembley, coming from two down at half-time to beat their City rivals. Joleon Lescott had headed Roberto Mancini’s team into the lead after half an hour, and against the run of play they took a two-goal advantage when Edin Dzeko struck from distance. But United proved once again they are at their most dangerous when seemingly beaten, with Chris Smalling and a brace from man of the match Nani completing the comeback. United had made a fast start with the counter attacking options of Young, Nani, Rooney and Welbeck causing City a number of concerns in the opening ten minutes. Young saw the clearest chance after just three minutes, but a deflection saw his shot go wide for a corner. From the resulting deliver Nani and Smalling both had opportunities to shoot but neither troubled Joe Hart’s goal. City created problems of their own with Richards typically providing energy on the right flank, his cross was aimed for the Bosnian striker but Vidic got their first and turned ball behind for a corner. No one expected it to be a friendly affair with the rivalry between these two clubs, and three players went into Phil Dowd’s book inside the opening quarter of the game. Vidic and Balotelli were the first to enliven the game with a coming together, but when Anderson and Dzeko squared off they both received yellow cards. So it turns out that Arsenal’s reserve team isn’t actually as good as an on-form Manchester United. Who’d have thought it? Arsene Wenger fielded a much-weakened side against the defending champions out of necessity rather than choice, but if he had any hope that a lineup featuring whatever Armand Traore, Carl Jenkinson and whatever a Francis Coquelin is against the big guns of United, they were cruelly dashed the instant the sides took to the field. The hosts dominated from the off, and it wasn’t before long that they were ahead thanks to the head of Danny Welbeck, who sauntered straight past a confused Johan Djourou to plant the ball past poor Wojciech Szczesny from close range following a neat flick back into the box by Anderson. However, it looked as though Arsenal would be able to reply instantly, because for whatever reason Johnny Evans decided to drag down Theo Walcott in the box. Possibly he wanted to make things fairer, because that was virtually the first Gunners attack of the match. No worries for United though – Robin van Persie’s shot was weak and fairly central, allowed David de Gea to get down to his right and save, and moments later former Aston Villa man Ashley Young added injury to the penalty-miss insult by jinking past Jenkinson and curling a shot into Szczesny’s top corner from 25 yards out, a strike so perfect that the England international started his celebration almost as soon as the ball left his foot.
